Illustration

Illustration is my first love. There’s magic in scratching paper with pencil and ink. I own so many art books and comics I’ve run out of places to put them, and I still buy children’s books for myself when I like the art. Some of my favorite illustrators: Edward Gorey, Ronald Searle, Roland Topor, Ralph Steadman, Ludwig Bemelmans, Quentin Blake, Saul Steinberg, Dave McKean, Carlos Nine and Joann Sfar. My all-time favorite is probably Jean-Jacques Sempé, who made every line count in a way that seems miraculous.
