My name is Lionel May and I'm a designer/illustrator and entrepreneur.
I like to tell stories, and I do it through illustrations, comics, product design, and the company I own and manage with my wife, Juliette & Chocolat; a restaurant dessert chain based in Montreal.

I share my time between my family and five young kids (I consider their education and introducing them to cool and inspiring stuff to be my most worthwhile and satisfying endeavor), my work for Juliette & Chocolat (for which I am in charge of business development, branding and marketing as well as product development), and comics, illustration and photography work.

Some of my favorite illustrators:
This pretty much sums up my tastes. My all time fave illustrator is probably Steinberg, who worked for the New Yorker. Two of my go-to illustration sites to explore and discover:
Some of my favorite comics:
So there's stuff missing here; I could've added Torpedo by Jordi Bernet, some Toppi, some Alan Moore and others, but these are the ones I go back to again and again.
Jose Roosevelt is an amazing Brazilian comic book artist, if you don't know his stuff it is worth checking out.
Some of my favorite films:
All-time favorite filmmaker is Kubrick, with Myazaki a close second, but if I had to pick one film, it would be Jules et Jim by Truffaut. I could have added to the list Blade Runner (the original), and The Hudsucker Proxy by the Cohen Brothers .
Some of my favorite quotes:

“You are a way for the universe to know itself.”     Carl Sagan

“I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.”     Groucho Marx
“Reality continues to ruin my life”     Bill Watterson, Calvin and Hobbes
“I'm sorry I could not have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time.” Abraham Lincoln
